Kupferzell - As this training is relatively new profession. "Began in the past, especially people who have made the truck-driving license in the army with us," says Matthias Breuer. For some years there is the professional who is trained in areas such as cargo transport services and a butcher in new copper. Three points would have been awarded to the business manager this year - so far he has only a commitment but sent.

Little idea

"Appropriate people are there just too little," he explains. Although come during the year up to 15 applications come in - but at most of them come at all five candidates in question. "The least give an idea of what means the profession," the secretary noted. Although Metzger drives usually packaged goods for domestic flights - one to stay somewhere outside but is there ever necessary, and if there is a traffic jam on the highway, it works well with the timely return for training in the evening not always. "Then our people have to adapt," said Breuer.

In general, the forwarding, which has nearly 100 employees (of which more than 60 drivers) one youth, who are already 17 years old. In the first months, they learn to operate in the workshop and warehouse to know and make parallel the license - but on the street, they may of course only when they are 18 years old. "Everyone starts with the small vehicles, the 3.5-tons," said Breuer. Then it goes step by step to 40-ton truck. First there are only small trips in the region and accompanied by experienced colleagues, at the end of regular trips to the port of Hamburg.

Large academic requirements, the company is not - "but the interest in the profession must be there." The license will cost extra. The experience of the commercial director: "Most young people catch on to us, their relatives or acquaintances even have drivers." He sees not that unwillingly: "They know what the profession."

One left

From time to time, the shipping also trained young people from East Germany. But rarely was that of time: "To those here, the ceiling fell on the head," says Breuer. Only a few have remained to the end. Also last year, when four trainees were recruited, some have removed the sails quickly: In the second year of training is only one of them left.

On the job security it can not lie, says the business manager: "We keep our drivers in times of crisis." 2009 had been canceled only with auxiliaries. For professional drivers are popular with all logistics carriers in the region, creating even for the few applicants for training places a competition. If something should be close, jump in Metzger workers from the camp or even the one or the other one retired, who have all necessary licenses and papers. The typical driver is cut from a different wood, Breuer said: "He wants to get out into the street. And if he is still young and unattached, gladly times farther away."

Vacancies

The end of July had registered the employment agency Schwäbisch Hall alone for the Hohenlohe district still 124 vacant training places for the start of school year. Most, ten places, there were the professional drivers. The seven bodies were still there as a butcher-sales specialists and retail sellers, six places as retirement homes.
